Motorsport racing is making its mark and people in Oman and the region have started to take notice of the ever popular sport. Credit also goes to Formula1 which is now hosted in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi. There are various class of racing take place in the Middle East and the number of Gulf drivers are increasing by the day.
Leading the way is our very own Ahmed Al Harthy, one of the very few racing drivers of international standing to emerge from Oman and the Gulf region. Al Harthy is currently leading the standings one of the United Kingdom’s pinnacle motor racing event, the Porsche Carerra Cup GB Championship in the Pro-AM 1 Class, and has had a podium finish 13 times out of 14. He hasalso participated in the iconic Le Mans racing circuit in France.
In just six short years, Ahmad Al Harthy has firmly established himself as one of the Middle East’s most talented sportsmen and certainly Oman’s shining light in global motor racing. His talent was spotted in 2006 thunder Arabia Middle East when he became the Vice-Champion in his debut season of car racing action also becoming the first Omani driver to compete in single-seaters.
Following three very successful seasons in the ranks of Formula Renault single-seater racing in the UK, Ahmad switched disciplines to the world of sports car competition in the prestigious and extremely high profile Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship.
In his first year, 2010, he achieved five Pro-Am 1 podium finishes and ended the campaign a highly creditable fourth in the standings. In addition to his UK outings, Ahmad has competed in Porsche Carrera Cup France and earlier this year he debuted in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. He also plans to contest more races in Europe and the Middle East over the next couple of seasons.
In line with its strategy to harness national talent, Oman Air has committed to support Oman’s international motor racing sensation Ahmad Al Harthy for the 2012 season. He is doing full justice to our confidence in him as he is looking set to win the Pro Am-1 in the Oman Air racing car!
Apart from racing Ahmed Al Harthy is actively involved in developing the sport in Oman and has inspired a whole new breed of upcoming motor sport enthusiasts.
